Vaccines

It only hurts for a second

Flu facts:

1. The flu virus is serious. Each year, about 200,000 people in the U.S. are hospitalized and about 36,000 people die because of the flu.

2. The flu vaccine DOES NOT cause the flu. Remember, the flu vaccine does not protect you from other viruses that can feel like the flu.

3. The flu is NOT just a bad cold. It is a highly contagious disease of the lungs and can lead to pneumonia.

4. People who have a flu vaccination get sick less often and miss fewer days of work.

Reasons to get the flu shot

·         Scientific studies have shown the influenza vaccine to be 70-90% effective in preventing the flu

·         The flu vaccine will help stop you from bringing the virus home to your family, or to work and infecting others

·         The flu viruses in the vaccine are killed so the influenza vaccine cannot cause the flu.

·         The influenza virus can lead to other medical complications and make already existing health problems such as diabetes, asthma, and heart disease worse.  If you care for or live with someone with one of these diseases, get a flu shot

  • Protect yourself, protect your patients, protect your family, get a flu shot!

You may not be able to be vaccinated if you have any of these conditions:

• Severe allergy to eggs (used in making the vaccine)

• Are very ill with high fever

• Have had a severe reaction to the flu vaccine in the past such as

  • Guillain-Barre syndrome
